The Children’s Book that Changed My Parenting

I yell.
I used to yell.
I TRY not to yell.

Here’s the thing – I used to yell at my kids. All the time. I tried to quit. I prayed to quit. I longed to quit. But I didn’t quit.
Until…
I read a book. A children’s book. About imaginary characters. These characters changed my parenting.
Thank you, Mama Stone.
Mama Stone reflected Jesus with Ribbons of Rainbows. She loved the Lord – read the Bible, prayed, and worshiped. She shone for the Lord.

Ribbons of Rainbows Parenting
Then one day Mama Stone didn’t pick up her Bible. She got angry. Her words became sharp rocks she threw at her kids. She yelled.

Can you picture it?

Do your words feel like sharp rocks?

Do you yell?

(Ok. So here’s the part I tell you that when you yell your words are like sharp rocks.)

Mama Stone changed my life.
I desire to shine with Ribbons of Rainbows. I desire to Reflect Jesus.
But many times I throw sharp rocks.

Here’s where the life changed happened. I pictured those ribbons of rainbows. I pictured those rocks. I chose to trade the rocks for ribbons. NOT by my strength. By His.

Our faces are not covered with a veil. We all display the Lord’s glory. We are being changed to become more like him so that we have more and more glory. And the glory comes from the Lord, who is the Holy Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:18 NIrV

Now when I feel the cloud hovering over me, I pray. I picture Mama Stone with Ribbons of Rainbows and sharp rocks. I choose ribbons instead of rocks. How? Because I’m being changed to become more like him through the glory of the Lord – the Holy Spirit.

You see, Mama Stone became powerful to me. Why? It’s just a children’s book I read. Only it’s not just a book to me. Mama Stone is a character I created. I wrote her into existence. Little did I know how my own words would change my life. What’s crazy is that the book isn’t even about Mama Stone. She’s not the main character. The book isn’t about throwing rocks. That’s just something that happened. The book is about two little Stones trying to find how to shine like Mama. Because Mama shines with the glory of the Lord – but like all of us, she doesn’t shine for Jesus all the time. She’s a normal mom, just like me.

You see, that’s God. It’s not me. God gave me the words. He knew the words He put into my mind would create a life changing moment for myself.

Thank you, God. Thank you for showing me that my words have the power to reflect You or become sharp rocks. Thank you for this book. May it change many more lives.
