“I’m not a math girl. I’m more of the creative type.”
These words echo through my head anytime I’m faced with a math problem that puzzles me. Let’s be real, it’s an excuse. It’s a way to get out of an uncomfortable situation. Permission to not try, which is the same as permission to fail.
Not anymore. I’m taking back the power of my mind. No longer will those words echo through my head. The thought process of “I’m not good in math.” is being replaced with “I can do it! Let me try!”
I’m taking a children’s math course.
Anyone really can do math.
Really, it’s more of a brain course. How our brains think about math, more than a course where you work math problems. (But then again, I’m only on lesson two.) The lessons are videos that average 2 – 6 minutes. I’ve talked to some who sit and watch all the videos and do the course in one sitting. From the course site:
This course is divided into six sessions. They are designed to give you a positive relationship with mathematics and to teach you powerful mathematics learning strategies. The First 3 sessions are short, they average about 10 minutes of watching time, and they teach important information on the brain and learning. The last 3 sessions are about 20 minutes of video time, as they teach important math strategies. The course will run until December 14th.
The best part… it’s FREE! I would love for you to take it with me. Or better yet, do it with your kids!
